CapoeiraWiki (https://capoeirawiki.org) is a free online encyclopedia dedicated to the Afro-Brazilian martial art of Capoeira. It is written and maintained by a community of volunteers through open collaboration, using the MediaWiki software. The project was officially launched online on September 1, 2024.
Language Availability
As of its launch, CapoeiraWiki is available only in English. However, plans have been announced to expand the platform to include Portuguese, Russian, Chinese, and other languages. The initial content of CapoeiraWiki was based on English Wikipedia articles related to Capoeira.
Mission
CapoeiraWiki is driven by the mission to gather, organize, and present knowledge about Capoeira in a way that is accessible to everyone, regardless of their location or language. The platform is designed as a multilingual resource, welcoming contributions in English, Portuguese, and more. The overarching goal is to build a global community of capoeiristas and enthusiasts who can learn from each other and help preserve the art for future generations. The concept of a wiki is central to this project: a collaborative environment where anyone can contribute, edit, and refine information. As CapoeiraWiki grows, contributions of expertise, stories, and insights are encouraged to help create the most comprehensive Capoeira resource available online.

Roadmap
CapoeiraWiki will be developed in three phases:
- Phase 1: Initial content upload. A limited number of trusted authors will begin uploading and organizing content, setting the foundation for the community to build upon.
- Phase 2: Invite-only access. To ensure quality and avoid spam or bot interference, user registration and editing will be by invitation only. This phase will help establish a strong foundation of reliable content.
- Phase 3: Open stage. CapoeiraWiki will transition to an open platform, where anyone can edit or add pages without an invite. The goal is to foster a vibrant, collaborative community of capoeiristas and enthusiasts from around the world.
